“David carried out God’s purpose while he lived. Then he died. He was buried with his people. His body rotted away.

You will have to work hard and sweat a lot to produce the food you eat. You were made out of the ground. You will return to it when you die. You are dust, and you will return to dust.”

Some day your life will come to an end. You will join the members of your family who have already died. Then I will make one of your own sons the next king after you. And I will make his kingdom secure.

David joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the City of David.

In the past, Saul was our king. But you led the men of Israel in battle. The Lord your God said to you, ‘You will be the shepherd over my people Israel. You will become their ruler.’ ”

David ruled over the whole nation of Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people.

He died when he was very old. He had enjoyed a long life. He had enjoyed wealth and honor. David’s son Solomon became the next king after him.

Rehoboam joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the City of David. Rehoboam’s son Abijah became the next king after him.

Jehoshaphat joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the family tomb in the City of David. Jehoshaphat’s son Jehoram became the next king after him.

Uzziah joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried near them in a royal burial ground. People said, “He had a skin disease.” Uzziah’s son Jotham became the next king after him.

Then he joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the city of his father David. Solomon’s son Rehoboam became the next king after him.

Suppose I say to the grave, ‘You are like a father to me.’ And suppose I say to its worms, ‘You are like a mother or sister to me.’

Side by side they lie in the dust of death. The worms in their graves cover all of them.

They are like sheep and will end up in the grave. Death will be their shepherd. But when honest people come to power, a new day will dawn. The bodies of sinners will waste away in the grave. They will end up far away from their princely houses.

No one can pay enough to live forever and not rot in the grave.

The slave who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work. He earned five bags more.

“Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad smell. Lazarus has been in the tomb for four days.”

God removed him and made David their king. Here is God’s witness about him. ‘David, son of Jesse, is a man dear to my heart,’ he said. ‘David will do everything I want him to do.’

“Fellow Israelites, you can be sure that King David died. He was buried. His tomb is still here today.

I haven’t let anyone keep me from telling you everything God wants you to do.

Then he fell on his knees. He cried out, “Lord! Don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he died.

And Saul had agreed with the Sanhedrin that Stephen should die. On that day the church in Jerusalem began to be attacked and treated badly. All except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

Those who have died believing in Christ are also lost.

After that, he appeared to more than 500 brothers and sisters at the same time. Most of them are still living. But some have died.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope.
