He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him. Everyone in Pharaoh’s house heard about it.

During the rule of Pekah, the king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser marched into the land again. He was king of Assyria. He captured the towns of Ijon, Abel Beth Maakah, Janoah, Kedesh and Hazor. He also captured the lands of Gilead and Galilee. That included the whole territory of Naphtali. He took the people away from their own land. He sent them off to Assyria.

But they kept asking until he felt he couldn’t say no. So he said, “Send them.” And they sent 50 men. They looked for Elijah for three days. But they didn’t find him.

Streams of tears flow from my eyes, because people don’t obey your law.

If you don’t listen, I will weep in secret. Because you are so proud, I will weep bitterly. Tears will flow from my eyes. The Lord’s flock will be taken away as prisoners.

“Jeremiah, give them this message. Tell them, “ ‘Let tears flow from my eyes. Let them pour out night and day. Never let them stop. The people of my own nation have suffered a terrible wound. They have been crushed.

I’m suffering! I’m really suffering! I’m hurting badly. My heart is suffering so much! It’s pounding inside me. I can’t keep silent. I’ve heard the sound of trumpets. I’ve heard the battle cry.

I wish my head were a spring of water! I wish my eyes were a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for my people who have been killed.

Let them come quickly and weep for us. Let them cry until tears flow from our eyes. Let them weep until water pours out of our eyes.

He approached Jerusalem. When he saw the city, he began to weep.

I served the Lord with tears and without pride. I served him when I was greatly tested. I was tested by the evil plans of the Jews who disagreed with me.

So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning you. Night and day I warned each of you with tears.

My heart is full of sorrow. My sadness never ends.

I have told you these things many times before. Now I tell you again with tears in my eyes. Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ.
