Elisha had been suffering from a sickness. Later he would die from it. Jehoash, the king of Israel, went down to see him. Jehoash wept over him. “My father!” he cried. “You are like a father to me! You, Elisha, are the true chariots and horsemen of Israel!”

Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is sick.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim along with him.

When Jacob had finished telling his sons what to do, he pulled his feet up into his bed. Then he took his last breath and died. He joined the members of his family who had already died.

The king of Israel saw them. So he asked Elisha, “Should I kill them? I need your advice. You are like a father to me. Should I kill them?”

Help, Lord! No one does what is right anymore. Those who are faithful have disappeared from the human race.

The blessing of honest people builds up a city. But the words of sinners destroy it.

Those who are right with God die. And no one really cares about it. People who are faithful to the Lord are swept away by trouble. And no one understands why that happens to those who do what is right.

And suppose Noah, Daniel and Job were in that country. Then these three men could save only themselves by doing what is right,” announces the Lord and King.

“I looked for someone among them who would stand up for Jerusalem. I tried to find someone who would pray to me for the land. Then I would not have to destroy it. But I could not find anyone who would pray for it.

“Where are those people now? And what about my prophets? Do they live forever?

because Herod was afraid of John. So he kept John safe. Herod knew John was a holy man who did what was right. When Herod heard him, he was very puzzled. But he liked to listen to John.

So the sisters sent a message to Jesus. “Lord,” they told him, “the one you love is sick.”

“David carried out God’s purpose while he lived. Then he died. He was buried with his people. His body rotted away.

He longs for all of you. He is troubled because you heard he was sick.
