Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

Remember, you molded me like clay. So are you going to turn me back into dust?

To God I’m just the same as you. I too am a piece of clay.

So he’ll certainly find fault with human beings. After all, they are made out of dust. They can be crushed more easily than a moth.

The priceless children of Zion were worth their weight in gold. But now they are thought of as clay pots made by the hands of a potter.

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure that was hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again. He was very happy. So he went and sold everything he had. And he bought that field.

He said to them, “Every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house. He brings new treasures out of his storeroom as well as old ones.”

“I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world.”

God chose the things of this world that are common and looked down on. God chose things considered unimportant to do away with things considered important.

Some say, “His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn’t seem like much. And what he says doesn’t amount to anything.”

It is true that Christ was nailed to the cross because he was weak. But Christ lives by God’s power. In the same way, we share his weakness. But by God’s power we will live with Christ as we serve you.

So because of God’s mercy, we have work to do. He has given it to us. And we don’t give up.

We know that the earthly tent we live in will be destroyed. But we have a building made by God. It is a house in heaven that lasts forever. Human hands did not build it.

We are sad, but we are always full of joy. We are poor, but we make many people rich. We have nothing, but we own everything.

So he gave us new life because of what Christ has done. He gave us life even when we were dead in sin. God’s grace has saved you.

I am by far the least important of all the Lord’s holy people. But he gave me the grace to preach to the Gentiles about the unlimited riches that Christ gives.

God has chosen to make known to them the glorious riches of that mystery. He has made it known among the Gentiles. And here is what it is. Christ is in you. He is your hope of glory.

When you were baptized, you were buried together with Christ. And you were raised to life together with him when you were baptized. You were raised to life by believing in God’s work. God himself raised Jesus from the dead.

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in him.

Our good news didn’t come to you only in words. It came with power. It came with the Holy Spirit’s help. He gave us complete faith in what we were preaching. You know how we lived among you for your good.

He wants all of you to learn to control your own bodies. You must live in a way that is holy. You must live with honor.

In a large house there are things made out of gold and silver. But there are also things made out of wood and clay. Some have special purposes. Others have common purposes.

The Lord said to Gideon, “I want to hand Midian over to you. But you have too many men for me to do that. Then Israel might brag, ‘My own strength has saved me.’
