Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.

All rich people of the earth will feast and worship God. All who go down to the grave will kneel in front of him. Those who cannot keep themselves alive will kneel.

When trouble comes, sinners are brought down. But godly people seek safety in God even as they die.

Those who trust in themselves are foolish. But those who live wisely are kept safe.

I said, “I’m enjoying the best years of my life. Must I now go through the gates of death? Will the rest of my years be taken away from me?”

Suppose I tell a godly person that they will live. And they trust in the fact that they used to do what is right. But now they do what is evil. Then I will not remember any of the right things they have done. They will die because they have done so many evil things.

Jesus told a story to some people who were sure they were right with God. They looked down on everyone else.

It is written, “Because of you, we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be killed.” (Psalm 44:22)

God has saved us from deadly dangers. And he will continue to do it. We have put our hope in him. He will continue to save us.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the hard times we had in Asia Minor. We were having a lot of trouble. It was far more than we could stand. We even thought we were going to die.

In ourselves we are not able to claim anything for ourselves. The power to do what we do comes from God.

Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

Abraham did this, because he believed that God could even raise the dead. In a way, he did receive Isaac back from death.
