I also told them how my gracious God was helping me. And I told them what the king had said to me. They replied, “Let’s start rebuilding.” So they began that good work.

But what I might say would give you hope. My words of comfort would help you.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Perfume and incense bring joy to your heart. And the sweetness of a friend comes from their honest advice.

I had not made godly people sad. But when you told them lies, you made them lose all hope. You advised sinful people not to turn from their evil ways. You did not want them to save their lives.

But I have prayed for you, Simon. I have prayed that your faith will not fail. When you have turned back, help your brothers to be strong.”

An angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and gave him strength.

Finally, let the Lord make you strong. Depend on his mighty power.

So appoint Joshua as the new leader. Help him to be brave. Give him hope and strength. He will take these people across the Jordan. You will see the land. But he will lead them into it to take it as their own.”

My son, be strong in the grace that is yours in Christ Jesus.

David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph. There he learned that Saul had come out to kill him.

David was greatly troubled. His men were even talking about killing him by throwing stones at him. All of them were very bitter because their sons and daughters had been taken away. But David was made strong by the Lord his God.
