“You leaders don’t know anything. You don’t understand anything. You are in the dark about what is right. Law and order have been destroyed all over the world.

“ ‘Do not hate another Israelite in your heart. Correct your neighbor boldly when they do something wrong. Then you will not share their guilt.

Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, you remain guilty.

In those days Peter stood up among the believers. About 120 of them were there.

But what if these things don’t describe someone at all? Then that person can’t see very well. In fact, they are blind. They have forgotten that their past sins have been washed away.

Suppose we say that we share life with God but still walk in the darkness. Then we are lying. We are not living out the truth.

But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness. They walk around in the darkness. They don’t know where they are going. The darkness has made them blind.

Suppose someone says, “I know him.” But suppose this person does not do what God commands. Then this person is a liar and is not telling the truth.

Here is how you can tell the difference between God’s children and the devil’s children. Anyone who doesn’t do what is right isn’t God’s child. And anyone who doesn’t love their brother or sister isn’t God’s child either.

Suppose someone claims to love God but hates a brother or sister. Then they are a liar. They don’t love their brother or sister, whom they have seen. So they can’t love God, whom they haven’t seen.
