They trust in their wealth. They brag about how rich they are.

Does an ax claim to be more important than the person who swings it? Does a saw brag that it is better than the one who uses it? That would be like a stick swinging the person who picks it up! It would be like a war club waving the one who carries it!

The Lord says, “Do not let wise people brag about how wise they are. Do not let strong people boast about how strong they are. Do not let rich people brag about how rich they are.

Because I belong to Christ Jesus, I can take pride in my work for God.

What the law says, it says to those who are ruled by the law. Its purpose is to shut every mouth and make the whole world accountable to God.

So who can brag? No one! Are people saved by the law that requires them to obey? Not at all! They are saved because of the law that requires faith.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

It is written, “The one who boasts should boast about what the Lord has done.” (Jeremiah 9:24)

Who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you brag as though you did not?

Your bragging is not good. It is like yeast. Don’t you know that just a little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise?

It is not based on anything you have done. No one can brag about earning it.
