They destroy my path; they succeed in destroying me without anyone assisting them.

We have had our fill of the taunts of the self-assured, of the contempt of the proud.

Remember, O Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. They said, “Tear it down, tear it down, right to its very foundation!”

For they harass the one whom you discipline; they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish.

Woe to those who live in ease in Zion, to those who feel secure on Mount Samaria. They think of themselves as the elite class of the best nation. The family of Israel looks to them for leadership.

You furiously stomp on the earth, you angrily trample down the nations.

The riders then agreed with the angel of the Lord, who was standing among the myrtle trees, “We have been walking about on the earth, and now everything is at rest and quiet.”

The Lord was very angry with your ancestors.

But this will be the nature of the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that have fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will decay while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot away in their sockets, and their tongues will dissolve in their mouths.

Then he cried out to me, “Look! The ones going to the northland have brought me peace about the northland.”
