He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing animals, birds, insects, and fish.

On all the walls around the temple, inside and out, he carved cherubs, palm trees, and flowers in bloom.

The Jews struck all their enemies with the sword, bringing death and destruction, and they did as they pleased with their enemies.

He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts.

The trees of the Lord receive all the rain they need, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted,

you mountains and all you hills, you fruit trees and all you cedars,

Rely on the Lord! Obey his commands! Then he will permit you to possess the land; you will see the demise of evil men.

But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I continually trust in God’s loyal love.

During his days the godly will flourish; peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky.

When the wicked sprout up like grass, and all the evildoers glisten, it is so that they may be annihilated.

Evergreens will grow in place of thorn bushes, firs will grow in place of nettles; they will be a monument to the Lord, a permanent reminder that will remain.

No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, for my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced.

They will be like a tree planted near a stream whose roots spread out toward the water. It has nothing to fear when the heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought. It does not stop bearing fruit.

For Israel’s sake I destroyed the Amorites. They were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks, but I destroyed the fruit on their branches and their roots in the ground.

When my enemies see this, they will be covered with shame. They say to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” I will gloat over them. Then they will be trampled down like mud in the streets.

They are like valleys stretched forth, like gardens by the river’s side, like aloes that the Lord has planted, and like cedar trees beside the waters.
