The Lord had caused the Syrian camp to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a large army. Then they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has paid the kings of the Hittites and Egypt to attack us!”

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks their poison; God’s sudden terrors are arrayed against me.

He does not fear bad news. He is confident; he trusts in the Lord.

For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea,

The wicked person flees when there is no one pursuing, but the righteous person is as confident as a lion.

All of them are skilled with a sword, well-trained in the art of warfare. Each has his sword at his side, to guard against the terrors of the night.

My heart palpitates, I shake in fear; the twilight I desired has brought me terror.

When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you.

But he said to them, “Why are you cowardly, you people of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was dead calm.

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
