I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,” and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory!

He has made his people victorious, and given all his loyal followers reason to praise – the Israelites, the people who are close to him. Praise the Lord!

But the godly are happy; they rejoice before God and are overcome with joy.

For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious.

Take notice of this, you ignorant people! You fools, when will you ever understand?

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of the whole earth.

“How long will you simpletons love naiveté? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?

You who are naive, discern wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment!

Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding.”

I asked, “What are these going to do?” He answered, “These horns are the ones that have scattered Judah so that there is no one to be seen. But the blacksmiths have come to terrify Judah’s enemies and cut off the horns of the nations that have thrust themselves against the land of Judah in order to scatter its people.”

He lifts the weak from the dust; he raises the poor from the ash heap to seat them with princes and to bestow on them an honored position. The foundations of the earth belong to the Lord, and he has placed the world on them.
