Their slander will bring about their demise. All who see them will shudder,

Your own mouth condemns you, not I; your own lips testify against you.

As for the heads of those who surround me – may the harm done by their lips overwhelm them!

Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them!

All who see me taunt me; they mock me and shake their heads.

Because of all my enemies, people disdain me; my neighbors are appalled by my suffering – those who know me are horrified by my condition; those who see me in the street run away from me.

When the godly see this, they will be filled with awe, and will mock the evildoer, saying:

They speak sinful words. So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak!

When my enemies turn back, they trip and are defeated before you.

The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble.

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life.

So their land will become an object of horror. People will forever hiss out their scorn over it. All who pass that way will be filled with horror and will shake their heads in derision.

For did not you people of Moab laugh at the people of Israel? Did you think that they were nothing but thieves, that you shook your head in contempt every time you talked about them?

Everyone who sees you will turn away from you in disgust; they will say, ‘Nineveh has been devastated! Who will lament for her?’ There will be no one to comfort you!”

All the Israelites who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “What if the earth swallows us too?”

They said to him, “He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”

The king said to him, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! So you knew, did you, that I was a severe man, withdrawing what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow?

They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say, “Woe, woe, O great city, Babylon the powerful city! For in a single hour your doom has come!”

Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues,
