Why does the wicked man reject God? He says to himself, “You will not hold me accountable.”

His words are as smooth as butter, but he harbors animosity in his heart. His words seem softer than oil, but they are really like sharp swords.

I am surrounded by lions; I lie down among those who want to devour me; men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are a sharp sword.

They say, “How does God know what we do? Is the sovereign one aware of what goes on?”

They spew out threats and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast.

Speaking recklessly is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing.

The tongue of the wise treats knowledge correctly, but the mouth of the fool spouts out folly.

The heart of the righteous considers how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

“You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation.

My assailants revile and conspire against me all day long.

Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say anything good, since you are evil? For the mouth speaks from what fills the heart.
