He deprives the leaders of the earth of their understanding; he makes them wander in a trackless desert waste.

The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed; the oppressed are trapped by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.

His mouth is full of curses and deceptive, harmful words; his tongue injures and destroys.

Pay back our neighbors in full! May they be insulted the same way they insulted you, O Lord!

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the faithless will be captured by their own desires.

The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble.

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life.

if you have been ensnared by the words you have uttered, and have been caught by the words you have spoken,

There is only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery. They resort to violence and bloodshed.

In that day you will not be ashamed of all your rebelliousness against me, for then I will remove from your midst those who proudly boast, and you will never again be arrogant on my holy hill.

In reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

and said, “Sir, we remember that while that deceiver was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’

But they persisted in saying, “He incites the people by teaching throughout all Judea. It started in Galilee and ended up here!”
