Those truly of Israelite descent separated from all the foreigners, standing and confessing their sins and the iniquities of their ancestors.

That person sings to others, saying: ‘I have sinned and falsified what is right, but I was not punished according to what I deserved.

Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.” And then you forgave my sins. (Selah)

Yes, I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins.

For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me.

My enemies ask this cruel question about me, ‘When will he finally die and be forgotten?’

The one who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy.

I, I am the one who blots out your rebellious deeds for my sake; your sins I do not remember.

For you are aware of our many rebellious deeds, and our sins testify against us; indeed, we are aware of our rebellious deeds; we know our sins all too well.

Let us acknowledge our shame. Let us bear the disgrace that we deserve. For we have sinned against the Lord our God, both we and our ancestors. From earliest times to this very day we have not obeyed the Lord our God.’
