How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the Lord delivers him.

He generously gives to the needy; his integrity endures. He will be vindicated and honored.

The godly face many dangers, but the Lord saves them from each one of them.

They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat.

All day long he shows compassion and lends to others, and his children are blessed.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed.

A king’s wrath is like a messenger of death, but a wise person appeases it.

The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the Lord, and the Lord will repay him for his good deed.

So remember your Creator in the days of your youth – before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;

But I will rescue you when it happens. I, the Lord, affirm it! You will not be handed over to those whom you fear.

For you will always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want. But you will not always have me!

By all these things, I have shown you that by working in this way we must help the weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

They requested only that we remember the poor, the very thing I also was eager to do.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints.

For judgment is merciless for the one who has shown no mercy. But mercy triumphs over judgment.

Because you have kept my admonition to endure steadfastly, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
