In those days Hezekiah was stricken with a terminal illness. He prayed to the Lord, who answered him and gave him a sign confirming that he would be healed.

“Surely, God does not reject a blameless man, nor does he grasp the hand of the evildoers.

May the Lord be constantly aware of them, and cut off the memory of his children from the earth!

The Lord pays attention to the godly and hears their cry for help.

The godly face many dangers, but the Lord saves them from each one of them.

This oppressed man cried out and the Lord heard; he saved him from all his troubles.

But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you.

The enemy’s cities have been reduced to permanent ruins; you destroyed their cities; all memory of the enemies has perished.

When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.

The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the reputation of the wicked will rot.

Before they even call out, I will respond; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

I will set my face against that person and will make him an object lesson and a byword and will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

Even when their enemies drive them into captivity, from there I will command the sword to kill them. I will not let them out of my sight; they will experience disaster, not prosperity.”

“I said, ‘I want to cut them in pieces. I want to make people forget they ever existed.
