I will praise you, O Lord, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me.

Then David went to his palace in Jerusalem. The king took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace and placed them under confinement. Though he provided for their needs, he did not have sexual relations with them. They remained in confinement until the day they died, living out the rest of their lives as widows.

Then David built an altar for the Lord there and offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings. And the Lord accepted prayers for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.

King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons. They built a palace for David.

When David went home to pronounce a blessing on his own house, Michal, Saul’s daughter, came out to meet him. She said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself this day! He has exposed himself today before his servants’ slave girls the way a vulgar fool might do!”

The king said to Nathan the prophet, “Look! I am living in a palace made from cedar, while the ark of God sits in the middle of a tent.”

Solomon offered as peace offerings to the Lord 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep. Then the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Lord’s temple.

Now Joab did not number Levi and Benjamin, for the king’s edict disgusted him.

Then my enemy will say, “I have defeated him!” Then my foes will rejoice because I am upended.

O Lord, do not let the wicked have their way! Do not allow their plan to succeed when they attack! (Selah)

I will extol you, my God, O king! I will praise your name continually!

My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me!

Now I will triumph over my enemies who surround me! I will offer sacrifices in his dwelling place and shout for joy! I will sing praises to the Lord!

Deliver your people! Empower the nation that belongs to you! Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times!

Do not let those who are my enemies for no reason gloat over me! Do not let those who hate me without cause carry out their wicked schemes!

By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.

I cried out to him for help and praised him with my tongue.

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Before our very eyes may the shed blood of your servants be avenged among the nations!

We have become an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us.

All who passed by on the road clapped their hands to mock you. They sneered and shook their heads at Daughter Jerusalem. “Ha! Is this the city they called ‘The perfection of beauty, the source of joy of the whole earth!’?” פ (Pe)

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live in pride.

Moreover, the officers are to say to the troops, “Who among you has built a new house and not dedicated it? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else dedicate it.
