Psalm 28:1

New English Translation

To you, O Lord, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave.

He redeemed my life from going down to the place of corruption, and my life sees the light!’

To the Lord I cry out; to the Lord I plead for mercy.

I pour out my lament before him; I tell him about my troubles.

Answer me quickly, Lord! My strength is fading. Do not reject me, or I will join those descending into the grave.

The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.

My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up.

To the Lord I cried out, and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah)

Sing to the Lord, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name.

“What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty?

But you take notice, Lord! O Lord, do not remain far away from me!

Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cry for help! Do not ignore my sobbing! For I am dependent on you, like one residing outside his native land; I am at your mercy, just as all my ancestors were.

I will pray to God, my high ridge: “Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?”

Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you!

Don’t let the current overpower me! Don’t let the deep swallow me up! Don’t let the pit devour me!

I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me.

O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God!

We will swallow them alive like Sheol, those full of vigor like those going down to the Pit.

Trust in the Lord from this time forward, even in Yah, the Lord, an enduring protector!

Indeed Sheol does not give you thanks; death does not praise you. Those who descend into the pit do not anticipate your faithfulness.

The angel then threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished. (After these things he must be released for a brief period of time.)
