The roof of my mouth is as dry as a piece of pottery; my tongue sticks to my gums. You set me in the dust of death.

Then Abraham asked, “Since I have undertaken to speak to the Lord (although I am but dust and ashes),

By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”

Certainly we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground that cannot be gathered up again. But God does not take away life; instead he devises ways for the banished to be restored.

Remember that you have made me as with the clay; will you return me to dust?

My bones stick to my skin and my flesh; I have escaped alive with only the skin of my teeth.

the voices of the nobles fell silent, and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.

“And now my soul pours itself out within me; days of suffering take hold of me.

When you ignore them, they panic. When you take away their life’s breath, they die and return to dust.

My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see.

They put bitter poison into my food, and to quench my thirst they give me vinegar to drink.

I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God.

A cheerful heart brings good healing, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes, he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful, because he willingly submitted to death and was numbered with the rebels, when he lifted up the sin of many and intervened on behalf of the rebels.”

Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake – some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.

Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!”

For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received – that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,
