My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away.

For my sighing comes in place of my food, and my groanings flow forth like water.

Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?

Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you.

Do not remain far away from me, for trouble is near and I have no one to help me.

Yes, wild dogs surround me – a gang of evil men crowd around me; like a lion they pin my hands and feet.

Do not sweep me away with sinners, or execute me along with violent people,

For the Lord promotes justice, and never abandons his faithful followers. They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out.

I am numb with pain and severely battered; I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel.

They say, “God has abandoned him. Run and seize him, for there is no one who will rescue him!”

I am bringing my deliverance near, it is not far away; I am bringing my salvation near, it does not wait. I will save Zion; I will adorn Israel with my splendor.”

We all growl like bears, we coo mournfully like doves; we wait for deliverance, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far from us.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

During his earthly life Christ offered both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his devotion.

The Lord will not abandon his people because he wants to uphold his great reputation. The Lord was pleased to make you his own people.
