I spread my hands out to you in prayer; my soul thirsts for you in a parched land.

“As for you, if you prove faithful, and if you stretch out your hands toward him,

Like a servant longing for the evening shadow, and like a hired man looking for his wages,

I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, “Where is your God?”

If we had rejected our God, and spread out our hands in prayer to another god,

O God, you are my God! I long for you! My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

I desperately want to be in the courts of the Lord’s temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God.

Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead? Do the departed spirits rise up and give you thanks? (Selah)

My eyes grow weak because of oppression. I call out to you, O Lord, all day long; I spread out my hands in prayer to you.
