“Because of the violence done to the oppressed, because of the painful cries of the needy, I will spring into action,” says the Lord. “I will provide the safety they so desperately desire.”

So he saves from the sword that comes from their mouth, even the poor from the hand of the powerful.

You will be protected from malicious gossip, and will not be afraid of the destruction when it comes.

Rise up, Lord! O God, strike him down! Do not forget the oppressed!

You defend the fatherless and oppressed, so that mere mortals may no longer terrorize them.

He is secure at all times. He has no regard for your commands; he disdains all his enemies.

So I again considered all the oppression that continually occurs on earth. This is what I saw: The oppressed were in tears, but no one was comforting them; no one delivers them from the power of their oppressors.

If you see the extortion of the poor, or the perversion of justice and fairness in the government, do not be astonished by the matter. For the high official is watched by a higher official, and there are higher ones over them!

It will become a visual reminder in the land of Egypt of the Lord who commands armies. When they cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a deliverer and defender who will rescue them.

“Now I will rise up,” says the Lord. “Now I will exalt myself; now I will magnify myself.

As for his father, because he practices extortion, robs his brother, and does what is not good among his people, he will die for his iniquity.

They turn to Baal; they are like an unreliable bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because their prayers to Baal have made me angry. So people will disdain them in the land of Egypt.

Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.

They threw away the foreign gods they owned and worshiped the Lord. Finally the Lord grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much.
