In the Lord I have taken shelter. How can you say to me, “Flee to a mountain like a bird!

Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.” They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right.

He does not charge interest when he lends his money. He does not take bribes to testify against the innocent. The one who lives like this will never be upended.

In my self-confidence I said, “I will never be upended.”

When a sentence is not executed at once against a crime, the human heart is encouraged to do evil.

You said, ‘I will rule forever as permanent queen!’ You did not think about these things; you did not consider how it would turn out.

Each one says, ‘Come on, I’ll get some wine! Let’s guzzle some beer! Tomorrow will be just like today! We’ll have everything we want!’

Surely they will be totally consumed like entangled thorn bushes, like the drink of drunkards, like very dry stubble.

But if that evil slave should say to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’

Now when they are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape.

As much as she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself, ‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’
