Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse.

When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is it really you, the one who brings disaster on Israel?”

When Elijah arrived, Ahab said to him, “So, you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah replied, “I have found you, because you are committed to doing evil in the sight of the Lord.

Zedekiah son of Kenaanah approached, hit Micaiah on the jaw, and said, “Which way did the Lord’s spirit go when he went from me to speak to you?”

Say, ‘This is what the king says, “Put this man in prison. Give him only a little bread and water until I safely return.”’”

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the Lord got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

“Therefore, blessed is the man whom God corrects, so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

The scorner does not love one who corrects him; he will not go to the wise.

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

They were silent and did not respond, for the king had ordered, “Don’t respond to him.”
