One day Elisha traveled to Shunem, where a prominent woman lived. She insisted that he stop for a meal. So whenever he was passing through, he would stop in there for a meal.

They contacted me four times in this way, and I responded the same way each time.

People lie to one another; they flatter and deceive.

For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her seductive words are smoother than olive oil,

by keeping you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the loose woman.

Suddenly he went after her like an ox that goes to the slaughter, like a stag prancing into a trapper’s snare

so that they may keep you from the adulterous woman, from the loose woman who flatters you with her words.

So the master said to his slave, ‘Go out to the highways and country roads and urge people to come in, so that my house will be filled.

but they urged him, “Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done.” So he went in to stay with them.

After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me to be a believer in the Lord, come and stay in my house.” And she persuaded us.

For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died.

She cried on his shoulder until the party was almost over. Finally, on the seventh day, he told her because she had nagged him so much. Then she told the young men the solution to the riddle.

But he refused, saying, “I won’t eat!” Both his servants and the woman urged him to eat, so he gave in. He got up from the ground and sat down on the bed.
