In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, but a righteous person can sing and rejoice.

May the Lord rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve!

They celebrate deliverance in the tents of the godly. The Lord’s right hand conquers,

I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly.

The godly bask in the light; the morally upright experience joy.

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord. They said, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously, the horse and its rider he has thrown into the sea.

The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will remain unfulfilled.

The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble.

Thorns and snares are in the path of the perverse, but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.

The wicked will be captured by his own iniquities, and he will be held by the cords of his own sin.

Surely, no one knows his appointed time! Like fish that are caught in a deadly net, and like birds that are caught in a snare – just like them, all people are ensnared at an unfortunate time that falls upon them suddenly.

and they will come to their senses and escape the devil’s trap where they are held captive to do his will.

My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials,

You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now but you believe in him, and so you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,

Thus we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

When the Israelites turned around, the Benjaminites panicked because they could see that disaster was on their doorstep.
