When the righteous become numerous, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.

The messengers scurried forth with the king’s order. The edict was issued in Susa the citadel. While the king and Haman sat down to drink, the city of Susa was in an uproar!

Now Mordecai went out from the king’s presence in purple and white royal attire, with a large golden crown and a purple linen mantle. The city of Susa shouted with joy.

so that the godless man should not rule, and not lay snares for the people.

When the righteous do well, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there is joy.

When the righteous rejoice, great is the glory, but when the wicked rise to power, people are sought out.

Like a roaring lion or a roving bear, so is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

When the wicked gain control, people hide themselves, but when they perish, the righteous increase.

I have seen another misfortune on the earth: It is an error a ruler makes.

Fools are placed in many positions of authority, while wealthy men sit in lowly positions.

So I again considered all the oppression that continually occurs on earth. This is what I saw: The oppressed were in tears, but no one was comforting them; no one delivers them from the power of their oppressors.

When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men to kill all the children in Bethlehem and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.

When King Herod heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.”
