A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory is from the Lord.

He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs.

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the Lord our God.

They will fall down, but we will stand firm.

But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me.

The Lord delivers; you show favor to your people. (Selah)

Our God is a God who delivers; the Lord, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge – for time and chance may overcome them all.

Those who go down to Egypt for help are as good as dead, those who rely on war horses, and trust in Egypt’s many chariots and in their many, many horsemen. But they do not rely on the Holy One of Israel and do not seek help from the Lord.

We know our noisy worship of false gods on the hills and mountains did not help us. We know that the Lord our God is the only one who can deliver Israel.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
