A person who has a quick temper does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes is hated.

Those who are evil will bow before those who are good, and the wicked will bow at the gates of the righteous.

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up to public contempt.

Then I said, “Lord, you give me strength and protect me. You are the one I can run to for safety when I am in trouble. Nations from all over the earth will come to you and say, ‘Our ancestors had nothing but false gods – worthless idols that could not help them at all.

Instead we will do everything we vowed we would do. We will sacrifice and pour out drink offerings to the goddess called the Queen of Heaven just as we and our ancestors, our kings, and our leaders previously did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, were well-off, and had no troubles.

But the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavenly expanse. And those bringing many to righteousness will be like the stars forever and ever.

Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to me in that day – and not to me only, but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing.

You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed – not by perishable things like silver or gold,

Then when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.
