The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.

“How often is the lamp of the wicked extinguished? How often does their misfortune come upon them? How often does God apportion pain to them in his anger?

when he caused his lamp to shine upon my head, and by his light I walked through darkness;

In the darkness a light shines for the godly, for each one who is merciful, compassionate, and just.

The godly bask in the light; the morally upright experience joy.

With pride comes only contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised.

The ransom of a person’s life is his wealth, but the poor person hears no threat.

The one who curses his father and his mother, his lamp will be extinguished in the blackest darkness.

for the evil person has no future, and the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.

But the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light, growing brighter and brighter until full day.

When I extinguish you, I will cover the sky; I will darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not shine.

Why should the name of our father be lost from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among the relatives of our father.”

Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’

The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’
