A kind person benefits himself, but a cruel person brings himself trouble.

He sucks the poison of serpents; the fangs of a viper kill him.

The one who is greedy for gain troubles his household, but whoever hates bribes will live.

A generous person will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.

A man who is all alone with no companion, he has no children nor siblings; yet there is no end to all his toil, and he is never satisfied with riches. He laments, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is futile and a burdensome task!

The godly perish, but no one cares. Honest people disappear, when no one minds that the godly disappear because of evil.

Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps your prosperity will be prolonged.”

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.”

I do not say this because I am seeking a gift. Rather, I seek the credit that abounds to your account.

For judgment is merciless for the one who has shown no mercy. But mercy triumphs over judgment.
