The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after this) when the sons of God were having sexual relations with the daughters of humankind, who gave birth to their children. They were the mighty heroes of old, the famous men.

He even killed an Egyptian who was seven and a half feet tall. The Egyptian had a spear as big as the crossbeam of a weaver’s loom; Benaiah attacked him with a club. He grabbed the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear.

He is the one who sits on the earth’s horizon; its inhabitants are like grasshoppers before him. He is the one who stretches out the sky like a thin curtain, and spreads it out like a pitched tent.

When they went up through the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, descendants of Anak, were living. (Now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

But the inhabitants are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

What is going to happen to us? Our brothers have drained away our courage by describing people who are more numerous and taller than we are, and great cities whose defenses appear to be as high as heaven itself! Moreover, they said they saw Anakites there.”

(The Emites used to live there, a people as powerful, numerous, and tall as the Anakites.

Caleb drove out from there three Anakites – Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, descendants of Anak.

When all the men of Israel saw this man, they retreated from his presence and were very afraid.

When the Philistine looked carefully at David, he despised him, for he was only a ruddy and handsome boy.
