When my enemies see this, they will be covered with shame. They say to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” I will gloat over them. Then they will be trampled down like mud in the streets.

I grind them as fine as the dust of the ground; I crush them and stomp on them like clay in the streets.

My accusers will be covered with shame, and draped in humiliation as if it were a robe.

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

I grind them as fine windblown dust; I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.

May those who want to harm me be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who arrogantly taunt me be covered with shame and humiliation!

My enemies’ taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, “Where is your God?”

The godly will rejoice when they see vengeance carried out; they will bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Before our very eyes may the shed blood of your servants be avenged among the nations!

The godly grow like a palm tree; they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon.

O Lord, you are ready to act, but they don’t even notice. They will see and be put to shame by your angry judgment against humankind, yes, fire will consume your enemies.

I have stirred up one out of the north and he advances, one from the eastern horizon who prays in my name. He steps on rulers as if they were clay, like a potter treading the clay.

The Lord says to Edom, “I will certainly make you small among nations. I will make you despised by all humankind.

“But I will repay Babylon and all who live in Babylonia for all the wicked things they did in Zion right before the eyes of you Judeans,” says the Lord.

‘We are ashamed because we have been insulted. Our faces show our disgrace. For foreigners have invaded the holy rooms in the Lord’s temple.’

They will wear sackcloth, terror will cover them; shame will be on all their faces, and all of their heads will be shaved bald.

Now if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must bow down and pay homage to the statue that I had made. If you don’t pay homage to it, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. Now, who is that god who can rescue you from my power?”

Let the priests, those who serve the Lord, weep from the vestibule all the way back to the altar. Let them say, “Have pity, O Lord, on your people; please do not turn over your inheritance to be mocked, to become a proverb among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, “Where is their God?”

“Because you violently slaughtered your relatives, the people of Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be destroyed forever.

You should not have gloated when your relatives suffered calamity. You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. You should not have boasted when they suffered adversity.

Many nations have now assembled against you. They say, “Jerusalem must be desecrated, so we can gloat over Zion!”

My enemies, do not gloat over me! Though I have fallen, I will get up. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.

The Lord has removed the judgment against you; he has turned back your enemy. Israel’s king, the Lord, is in your midst! You no longer need to fear disaster.

And they will be like warriors trampling the mud of the streets in battle. They will fight, for the Lord will be with them, and will defeat the enemy cavalry.

Your eyes will see it, and then you will say, ‘May the Lord be magnified even beyond the border of Israel!’”

You will trample on the wicked, for they will be like ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord who rules over all.

He trusts in God – let God, if he wants to, deliver him now because he said, ‘I am God’s Son’!”

When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will turn against us and destroy the very memory of us from the earth. What will you do to protect your great reputation?”
