“You have heard that it was said to an older generation, ‘Do not murder,’ and ‘whoever murders will be subjected to judgment.’
She said, “In the past they would always say, ‘Let them inquire in Abel,’ and that is how they settled things.
He appointed judges throughout the land and in each of the fortified cities of Judah.
“You shall not murder.
And they must stand as your towns of refuge from the avenger in order that the killer may not die until he has stood trial before the community.

“Again, you have heard that it was said to an older generation, ‘Do not break an oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’
You must appoint judges and civil servants for each tribe in all your villages that the Lord your God is giving you, and they must judge the people fairly.
You must not murder.
Everyone who hates his fellow Christian is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
