The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”

But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”

I have both seen and testified that this man is the Chosen One of God.”

Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel!”

The Jewish leaders surrounded him and asked, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God!”

So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus replied, “What I have told you from the beginning.

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the one who was proclaimed among you by us – by me and Silvanus and Timothy – was not “Yes” and “No,” but it has always been “Yes” in him.

When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly.

Now the men of Israel were hard pressed that day, for Saul had made the army agree to this oath: “Cursed be the man who eats food before evening! I will get my vengeance on my enemies!” So no one in the army ate anything.

When the army entered the forest, they saw the honey flowing, but no one ate any of it, for the army was afraid of the oath.

Then someone from the army informed him, “Your father put the army under a strict oath saying, ‘Cursed be the man who eats food today!’ That is why the army is tired.”
