Where did John’s baptism come from? From heaven or from people?” They discussed this among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’

So they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “It is because we brought no bread.”

Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

But they remained silent. So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him away.

So they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

John testified about him and shouted out, “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am, because he existed before me.’”

A man came, sent from God, whose name was John.

The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

that if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.
