Sighing deeply in his spirit he said, “Why does this generation look for a sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to this generation.”

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

Then some of the experts in the law along with some Pharisees answered him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then he left them and went away.

After looking around at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

And he was amazed because of their unbelief. Then he went around among the villages and taught.

Then he looked up to heaven and said with a sigh, “Ephphatha” (that is, “Be opened”).

Then he left them, got back into the boat, and went to the other side.

He answered them, “You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me.”

Now when Jesus approached and saw the city, he wept over it,
