Now King Herod heard this, for Jesus’ name had become known. Some were saying, “John the baptizer has been raised from the dead, and because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”

In Jerusalem he made war machines carefully designed to shoot arrows and large stones from the towers and corners of the walls. He became very famous, for he received tremendous support and became powerful.

The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah and his fame reached the border of Egypt, for he grew in power.

But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that entire region.

So the news about him spread quickly throughout all the region around Galilee.

But as the man went out he began to announce it publicly and spread the story widely, so that Jesus was no longer able to enter any town openly but stayed outside in remote places. Still they kept coming to him from everywhere.

They said, “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.”

At that time, some Pharisees came up and said to Jesus, “Get away from here, because Herod wants to kill you.”

This report about Jesus circulated throughout Judea and all the surrounding country.

They answered, “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.”

For from you the message of the Lord has echoed forth not just in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place reports of your faith in God have spread, so that we do not need to say anything.

while God confirmed their witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
