Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, today – this very night – before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” There was evening, and there was morning, marking the first day.

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”

Stay alert, then, because you do not know when the owner of the house will return – whether during evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or at dawn –

But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all of them said the same thing.

The girl who was the doorkeeper said to Peter, “You’re not one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” He replied, “I am not.”

So let the one who thinks he is standing be careful that he does not fall.
