Mark 14:1

Two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the chief priests and the experts in the law were trying to find a way to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

Now Joseph’s brothers saw him from a distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.

You love evil more than good, lies more than speaking the truth. (Selah)

They spend all their time planning how to bring him down. They love to use deceit; they pronounce blessings with their mouths, but inwardly they utter curses. (Selah)

Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air.

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,

Crumble it in pieces and pour olive oil on it – it is a grain offering.

But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, as to how they could assassinate him.

Thus whenever you do charitable giving, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, they have their reward.

Now on the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

For they said, “Not during the feast, so there won’t be a riot among the people.”

So the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said, “What are we doing? For this man is performing many miraculous signs.

Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his time had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end.

When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod planned to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
