Certainly we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground that cannot be gathered up again. But God does not take away life; instead he devises ways for the banished to be restored.

He does not fear bad news. He is confident; he trusts in the Lord.

Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. Even when war is imminent, I remain confident.

You will not be afraid of sudden disaster, or when destruction overtakes the wicked;

“Do not say, ‘Conspiracy,’ every time these people say the word. Don’t be afraid of what scares them; don’t be terrified.

Do not lose your courage or become afraid because of the reports that are heard in the land. For a report will come in one year. Another report will follow it in the next. There will be violence in the land with ruler fighting against ruler.”

Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come.

When King Herod heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.

Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and they will mislead many.

For nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines. These are but the beginning of birth pains.

“Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.
