He called his disciples and said to them, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the offering box than all the others.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, he will never lose his reward.”
And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, worth less than a penny.
For they all gave out of their wealth. But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.”
(Jesus spoke these words near the offering box while he was teaching in the temple courts. No one seized him because his time had not yet come.)
So the disciples, each in accordance with his financial ability, decided to send relief to the brothers living in Judea.
For if the eagerness is present, the gift itself is acceptable according to whatever one has, not according to what he does not have.
that during a severe ordeal of suffering, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their generosity.
