Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to trap him with his own words.

Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me. (Selah)

Those who seek my life try to entrap me; those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things.

those who bear false testimony against a person, who entrap the one who arbitrates at the city gate and deprive the innocent of justice by making false charges.

Then some people said, “Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”

“Watch out,” Jesus said to them, “beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

When they came they said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful and do not court anyone’s favor, because you show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

So the Pharisees went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians, as to how they could assassinate him.

And Jesus ordered them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!”

plotting against him, to catch him in something he might say.
