What did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

Although Herod wanted to kill John, he feared the crowd because they accepted John as a prophet.

Many came to him and began to say, “John performed no miraculous sign, but everything John said about this man was true!”

Then the commander of the temple guard went with the officers and brought the apostles without the use of force (for they were afraid of being stoned by the people).
