Jesus said to another, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
He left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, then I will follow you.” Elijah said to him, “Go back! Indeed, what have I done to you?”
The Lord who rules over all says this: “These people have said, ‘The time for rebuilding the Lord’s temple has not yet come.’”
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him.
But Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
