May my thoughts be pleasing to him! I will rejoice in the Lord.

my anxiety intensified. As I thought about it, I became impatient. Finally I spoke these words:

As iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens his friend.

Ointment and incense make the heart rejoice, likewise the sweetness of one’s friend from sincere counsel.

The sovereign Lord has given me the capacity to be his spokesman, so that I know how to help the weary. He wakes me up every morning; he makes me alert so I can listen attentively as disciples do.

As your words came to me I drank them in, and they filled my heart with joy and happiness because I belong to you.

Sometimes I think, “I will make no mention of his message. I will not speak as his messenger any more.” But then his message becomes like a fire locked up inside of me, burning in my heart and soul. I grow weary of trying to hold it in; I cannot contain it.

My message is like a fire that purges dross! It is like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces! I, the Lord, so affirm it!

He did not speak to them without a parable. But privately he explained everything to his own disciples.

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures,

The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
