Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

Pilate asked them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

Nevertheless, even among the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they would not confess Jesus to be the Christ, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue.

Pilate asked, “What is truth?” When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders and announced, “I find no basis for an accusation against him.

Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders, “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation against him.”

Now a certain man, a Pharisee named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council,

Yet here he is, speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to him. Do the rulers really know that this man is the Christ?

None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?

For the people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize him, and they fulfilled the sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath by condemning him.

And now, brothers, I know you acted in ignorance, as your rulers did too.

On the next day, their rulers, elders, and experts in the law came together in Jerusalem.

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied, “Rulers of the people and elders,
