the blessing of the dying man descended on me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice;

Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow!

That is how they have grown fat and sleek. There is no limit to the evil things they do. They do not plead the cause of the fatherless in such a way as to win it. They do not defend the rights of the poor.

Reach agreement quickly with your accuser while on the way to court, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the warden, and you will be thrown into prison.

He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people.

For a while he refused, but later on he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people,

yet because this widow keeps on bothering me, I will give her justice, or in the end she will wear me out by her unending pleas.’”

‘Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’
